    Description

    Details

    (Top left)
This image depicts a scene of banqueters taking in the sight of a world blanketed in snow from a tatami room.
Hokusai Katsushika rarely depicted snow laden imagery, this image being the only one of the Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series to do so.

    (Bottom left)
This image depicts an upside down Mt. Fuji reflected on the surface of calm, placid water.
On top, a summertime landscape with no snowcap, as the mountain would actually appear.
The inverted reflection of Mt. Fuji on the water’s surface depicts a snowcapped peak, and hence a wintertime landscape.
You can really sense Hokusai Katsushika’s humor here.

    (Center)
This is a famous piece that many Japanese are familiar with.
From the end of summer to the beginning of fall, Mt. Fuji will appear red steeped in the early morning glow of the morning sun.
The moniker “Akafuji (literally: Red Mt. Fuji)” is often employed.

    (Top right)
This is an image of people enjoying the splendor of Mt. Fuji accompanied by cherry blossoms in full bloom.
This is the only piece depicting cherry blossoms in the Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji.
